AUGUST UPDATE 2019

UPDATE TO ALL MEMBERS – AUGUST 2019

Welcome back, everyone! We hope you had a restful summer and now feel ready to face the new school year. We will, of course, keep you up-to-date with all relevant information moving forward but would just wish to draw your attention to a few issues at this point.

GENERAL SECRETARY

Our previous General Secretary, Avril Hall-Callaghan, retired following Annual Conference at the end of April. I know many of you have passed on congratulations and we all join together in wishing her a peaceful and happy new phase in her life. She deserves it!

I was honoured and privileged to be elected into the position of General Secretary commencing in May and I thank you all for your support. It is my intention to put every effort into steering UTU forward through these difficult times and effecting outcomes which will benefit all of you.
I, with our Field Officers, Lewis Love, Leigh Cooper and Rebekka Gilpin are always available to respond to any problems or queries you may have. We are, as ever, available for school visits if you are seeking any help and support – just contact the office if you would like to schedule.

PAY
You will, of course, be aware that we have a potential pay deal on the table but are awaiting the completion of the process and availability of funding before we can move forward. As we informed you last term, on completion of that process, we will be holding meetings and providing full communication to ensure that all members are fully aware of all aspects of the potential agreement before you, the members, take the decision as to how to proceed. Meetings with Management Side will reconvene early in the new term so we hope to update you as to progress in the coming days.
In terms of incremental pay, MAY WE REMIND ANY MEMBER ON M6 THAT THEY WILL BE REQUIRED TO APPLY TO GO THROUGH THRESHOLD IF THEY WISH TO PROGRESS TO UPS1. You are only required to have completed one year at M6 to be eligible to apply. Forms can be obtained from your Principal or the DE website and should be submitted as a matter of priority.

INDUSTRIAL ACTION
In light of the current situation, we will be continuing with our industrial action into the new term; details can be found on the website. You can also contact the office if you need clarification on any aspect. Our Central Executive Committee will be meeting in September to review our position and we will keep you updated on any changes.

MEMBERSHIP PLUS CARDS
Just to remind you that the Membership Plus cards you received last September remain valid for another year. They allow you to access a growing number of great deals. Please remember to register on line if you haven’t already done so to be kept fully informed of new opportunities.

AND FINALLY…
We wish you every success for the year ahead. We know that the situation out there remains very challenging and we also are fully aware that it is the dedication and commitment of you, the Principals and teachers, which is keeping the system afloat.
If we can help in any way, contact us on 028 90662216, office@utu.edu or on the website www.utu.edu.
Good luck!

Jacquie White
General Secretary
