Term 1

Induction Course for New School Reps (SR1) – 6 Nov 2017   This is an induction course for all new UTU School representatives and will provide initial training on the role and responsibilities of the rep as well as an update on current issues.  

Confidence at Work (2 days) (OCN accredited) – 8 & 14 Nov 2017   This is a new course for all UTU members on understanding how confidence can be damaged in the workplace and how legislation and policy can support challenging behaviour at work and how building confidence can change union members’ lives.  

Managing Staff Stress at Work for Principals / Vice-principals (2 days) (OCN accredited) – 15 & 22 Nov 2017   This new course is for all UTU principals and vice-principals to identify their roles and responsibilities in managing stress in the workplace, providing the relevant legislation and stress management standards and giving practical examples of how to address stress in the workplace.    

 

Term 2


School Reps Training x 2 Days (SR2) – 5 & 6 Feb 2018   This course is suitable for UTU reps who have been completed the induction training for school reps. The 2 day course covers union structures, recruitment, dealing with members’ queries and representation, negotiation and casework skills.  

IPad Training –Using IPads in the classroom (1 day) – week of 19 Feb 2018   This course is suitable for all UTU members who use IPad in their school or classroom and wish to extend their knowledge and skills in utilising the IPad to enhance their work.  

Union Learning Reps Stage 1 (3 days) (OCN accredited) – 21, 22 & 17 Feb 2018   This is a new course, designed to identify learning needs of members in schools and promote learning in the workplace. UTU will be seeking to identify and train new ‘Union Learning Reps’ ULRs to analyse training needs of members in their school, provide information to members on training matters, promote the value of learning and training and consult with the employer about carrying out training.  

Aspiring School Leaders: Applying For Your First VP/P Post – 21 March 2018   This course is suitable for all UTU members applying for their first vice-principal or principal post. It will assist you in filling in the application form and interview techniques.  

Social Media Training Course (3 days) (OCN accredited) – 15, 16 & 24 May 2018   This course is available to all UTU reps and members. It is designed to raise awareness of the difficulties members and reps may encounter with utilising social media, provide information on relevant legislation and consider ways to defend against disciplinary action for alleged misuse of social media. The course will also look at the implications of social media being used against members and schools.
